About Nicole

Nicole Mendoza is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is the Founder of Creating Courage, a virtual therapy practice based in NYC. She provides virtual therapy services and specializes in the treatment of trauma & anxiety.

Creating Courage’s name was born from times of tribulation that transpired into times of joy. When Nicole’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, the word Courage, was used to assist Nicole’s mother in persevering through chemotherapy treatments and surgeries. The word courage was used as a mantra to remember faith in difficult and trying times and to face fears amidst adversity. In Nicole’s work she has also noticed that courage is used time and time again with her own clients to face fears relating to anxiety and traumatic events. Therefore, when choosing a name for the practice, Creating Courage, was the perfect fit.

Nicole is a trauma & anxiety focused clinician and is trained in Trauma Therapy Modalities, certified as a Cognitive Therapist (CBT), and has training in Complicated Grief. As an anxiety expert, Nicole utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy & Exposure and Response Prevention modalities to treat symptoms of anxiety, OCD & health anxiety.

Nicole uses family systems theory and the ecological model in all her therapy sessions to understand you better. As a social worker, Nicole always views clients through the lens of their environment, which includes where you were raised, your family life, culture, and more.

Nicole began her social work career at Fordham’s Graduate School of Social Services. She concentrated in the treatment of trauma & anxiety during graduate school and has worked as a therapist in foster care agencies, community mental health clinics, in corporate social work settings, & in group private practice focusing on the treatment of OCD, social & health anxiety.
